Tottenham concludes his first deals in the Mourinho era

Tottenham Hotspur has announced that it has signed a contract with Portuguese midfielder Gidson Fernandez on loan for 18 months, with a clause permitting him to be contracted permanently.

"We are delighted to announce that we have reached an agreement to include Gidson Fernandez on loan for 18 months with a clause to contract with the player permanently," Tottenham said in a statement on Twitter.

And published the club's official account pictures of Fernandez in the team jersey, to become the first deal concluded by the club under the leadership of his Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, who took over the task last November, succeeding Argentine Mauricio Pochettino.

Fernandez, 21, will wear the No. 30 shirt.

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham's contract with Benfica contains a purchase option clause for 42.76 million pounds (50 million euros).

Benfica agreed to make the deal with Tottenham and West Ham, but Fernandez chose to sign Spurs, led by his compatriot Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea were among the clubs interested in also including the player with a commitment to join him for 55 million pounds, if he participated in at least 50% of the matches during the loan period.

Meanwhile, Leon Milan sought to annex him, but Fernandez's desire was to move to the English Premier League.
